TORONTO -- A management group—under the name Infinity Rubber Technology Group Inc.—has purchased the assets of the Toronto-based plant of custom mixer Biltrite Rubber (1984) Inc.
A distributor of hoses and other accessories for hydraulic, air, water, welding and refrigeration equipment, General Rubber had been at the Milwaukee location for more than 50 years.
By moving to New Berlin, General Rubber is nearly doubling the size of its warehouse and distribution facility and will increase its inventory of hoses and accessories.
Honeywell is bringing manufacturing jobs and a division headquarters to Will County.
Honeywell is consolidating two smaller sites, one in Chicago and another in Skokie, into the larger Bolingbrook headquarters. Most of the jobs will be filled with workers who transfer from those locations, said Jeff Morris, president of Honeywell Safety Products.
The 118,000-square-foot space will be split between manufacturing and distribution and the headquarters for the company's electrical safety division.
The Salisbury brand products that will be produced in Bolingbrook are all related to keeping workers safe around electricity. The products will include rubber gloves, rubber sleeves, rubber line hose and rubber blankets,
The nation's leading tire recycling company, Liberty Tire, purchased Texas-based Able Tire Company, and The March Group represented the seller, according to a June 19 press release. Liberty and Able Tire's merger represents a partnering in the Texas and Oklahoma scrap tire market.
There's a growing debate about the safety of the recycled rubber chips used to cushion falls on many children's playgrounds. The Environmental Protection Agency has endorsed rubber play surfaces since 1991, both to protect children from head injuries and prevent tires from ending up in landfills, where they can catch fire or become breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Yet EPA officials say they can't vouch for the safety of recycled rubber, which can be contaminated with lead and other toxins, according to internal documents released under the Freedom of Information Act to the advocacy group Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility, or PEER.
